Guggenheim Bilbao

The pride and joy of Bilbao is this breathtaking building, the Guggenheim Museum. It is a modern and contemporary art museum, and was designed by Frank Gehry who also designed the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, another beautiful building. We took the tram to the museum and just walked around with our camera. The weather was pleasant (thankfully, since it rains almost every day) so we explored outside around the building, by the river and the other statues around.  The giant spider is called Maman by Louise Bourgeois, which is Mommy in French. (Apparently there are many more around the world.) There was also a giant dog covered in flowers called Puppy by Jeff Koons. This was Sophie's favorite part of the day! That, and when we played on the playground. Afterwards, the darker clouds were coming pretty quickly so we retreated to our apartment.

For some unknown reason, Sophie chose this spot in particular as her "stage" where she, speaking in her British accent, decided to practice her monologue for her Broadway debut.

We're so glad the weather let up a bit so we could go out and enjoy this beautiful city! It's hard to believe we only have a week and a half left!
