Flashback Friday and mini update

So sorry about the late post, my computer is getting fixed (for free!), so my wonderful husband has agreed to let me use his beautiful computer! I've been waiting for three days for them to call me and tell me it's fixed, but here I am, still waiting. Sorry also about the lag in posting. We've been busy, but not a whole lot of interesting things happening in Denver. Jim is just getting over the flu (It's called Flooza, not Kooza on site.) and a bug is going around the cast. There have been people out sick and a lot of injuries. I'm co-hosting a baby shower for a good friend of mine tomorrow night (there's a lot to do in preparation!) and Lutzes arrive Monday afternoon. Sophie has been busy making new friends at babyROO and Kindermusik. She absolutely loves the other babies (Hannah and Natalia) and her teacher Miss Jenny!
Sophie is thisclose to crawling - she scoots backwards, but if there's something behind her she can push off of, watch out! She has also taken to doing tummy time in the morning in her crib. We wake up and she's on her tummy, smiling and squealing! Such a happy baby!

This FF is celebrating the Detroit Red Wings' start of their season. I know its only preseason right now, but we're excited. It's just less time we have until we get the Cup back. These pictures were taken in Atlanta, when Sophie was 6-8 weeks old. I can't believe she was ever that small (and had such little hair)! Here in the Lutz household, one is never too young to show her true colors! This outfit has since been retired and saved - it now is covering the teddy bear that François gave us. This is a little bit funny, since he's a HUGE Canadiens fan, heehee!

Flashback Friday

This video was taken in Atlanta, GA, when The Soph was 6 weeks old, when she was just starting to smile socially. Even now at 9 months, she likes it when I do that!

Babbling!

Here is a video of Sophie babbling. She just started saying "Dada" and having it mean something, so she says it a lot. She's just started using bah, dah, glah, blah noises. It's pretty amazing seeing her start to use her voice for things other than screaming or crying! :] Oh, and please excuse the Mommy voice. :]

By the way, Boudreaux's Butt Paste is the BOMB! I highly recommend it. Not only does it work to get rid of diaper rash and to prevent it from happening, but it also smells really good. They even have a natural kind too! [PS You can even get a free sample by following the instructions on their page!]

Flashback Friday

This FF was taken in Atlanta, GA, when Sophie was a month or two old.

Bonus FF (Also taken in Atlanta, around the same time):
She's got a bottom lip that could go for miles!

Told ya so!

Here's Sophie waiting impatiently for mommy to give her the yogurt she so very much loves. She's definitely a natural in front of the camera. I think we have a superstar on our hands!

Bath time!

Sophie just loves her bath! Hi, Mama!!

Singing in the bathroom is fun too!

Who doesn't love chewing on their rubber ducky? (Look at those eyelashes!)

And splashing around is so fun!

A fun day at the Denver Zoo!

Yesterday for the double dark, the fam and I spent the day at the Denver Zoo. It was a wonderful day, well, until when we got home Sophie decided she was going to scream instead of take her bottle. I'll give you a minute to let this sink in. Sophie. Refused. A. Bottle. In her nine months of life, she has never even thought about refusing the bottle. Um, have you SEEN this girl? She's the same size as the 18-month-old on site! We ended up giving her the only thing she would take: YoBaby yogurt. It's our go-to if we're in a hurry or in a pinch. It must have felt pretty good, being cold on her gums. She must have really been in serious pain. Poor baby! But I digress... The zoo. It started (and ended) really well. Free parking (who can say no to that!) and we just happened to walk by a woman who had a pass, so we only had to pay for one ticket. They had a really amazing array of animals and the atmosphere was very friendly. Here are a few pictures of the statues around the entrance.

When we stopped for lunch, there were peacocks just walking around, doo do doo. Sophie wasn't scared at all, either. Plus it wasn't crowded at all, so we had plenty of room to move about as we wished, without being rushed or on a schedule.

Here are some other cool pictures we took.

Hanging out with Daddy by the lions.

Lastly, in the gorilla exhibit there was a little boy (probably around 3 or 4) who asked his mom about the 'Big Daddy' gorilla sitting apart from everyone else: "Did he get sent to time-out?" Ahh, children. I still giggle when I think about that! I can't wait to tell you all the funny/cute things Sophie comes up with someday. We saw a mommy and a baby goat that were having a hard time keeping their eyes open. I know another cute kid (get it? KID?!?) with exactly that same problem.

FINALLY!

Sophie has both her top teeth coming in. So THAT's why she's been waking up at 3 am every night this week! Happy 9 months, babygirl!
Sorry, no pics yet!

Happy 9 months, Sophie!

Such a big girl!

Sophie is really getting to be such a grown-up! She eats organic baby food three times a day (a 2 fruit and a 2 vegetable at each meal). Her favorites are carrot/tomato, green beans/rice blueberry/apple and sweet potato. She also enjoys eating Yo Baby organic baby yogurt! She can't get enough of the stuff! So far, we've only had luck once with a 3 food, which was actually a soup. Anything chunky and we have to change her bib. :[ We've tried finger foods before each meal, as she is really getting the pincer grasp down, but once it's in her hand she really doesn't know what to do with it. If she does manage to put it in her mouth, it's a disaster. So we're just taking it one day at a time. As far as crawling, she wants to move, but hasn't quite figured out that she has to pick up her belly and she'll actually get somewhere. I try showing her, but she just laughs! She can scoot and change direction, but nothing more. Honestly, I'm okay with setting her down and having her be in the same place (or close to it) when I return. It's difficult here with the wood floors, so all the tummy time has to be in the bedroom. Her favorite way of getting around (besides being close to daddy when he carries her) is pushing off when she is on her back. She can move! Beware when changing her diaper. The only thing that keeps her in one spot, believe it or not, is the tube of Butt Paste that she holds and plays with! By the way, we're using gDiapers almost exclusively now. I love them! They're cute, stylish and great for the environment. (They're biodegradable and you can compost them too!) We use disposable diapers very rarely, like if we know we're going to be gone a long time and there may not be strong toilets to flush the liners.

Here is a recent picture I snapped while having fun in Babies R Us, trying on hats and such. Look at her teeth!:

On a side note, I've been part of the Desperate Cirque Wives Club and for each of our gatherings, I baked and decorated cupcakes. Here is a sampling!

Beach cupcakes with blue frosting and graham cracker "sand", paper umbrellas and button sandals

Tye-die mini cupcakes

Movie-night mini popcorn cupcakes with marshmallow "popcorn"

Flashback Friday

Good morning, friends! This FF was taken when Sophie was three weeks old, after making the drive from Washington, DC to Michigan for her first Christmas. We were in my parents' house in Lowell and I ordered these noise-cancellation earmuffs for seeing the show. Jim decided to try them on to see if they fit and what her reaction would be. Surprisingly, this was it:
